Kochi: A CPI(M) leader, involved in the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank multi-crore scam, in a bid to put pressure against the investigation agency Enforcement Directorate (ED), alleged that he was assaulted by ED officials during questioning. But this allegation has been refuted by the prime suspect.
CPI(M) leader and councilor at Wadakkanchery Municipality, PR Aravindakshan, filed a complaint to the police alleging assault by ED officials during questioning. The Kerala police also visited the ED’s office in Kochi for preliminary investigation.
However, the prime witness in the multi-crore scam, Jijor told ‘Janam TV’ that ED officials have not assaulted anybody. He further said that Aravindakshan’s motive to raise the allegation might be political.
Jijor said that he was with them for nine days and he did not see anyone being assaulted. He added that every cabin at the ED office has CCTVs.
The prime witness also remarked that the ED officials did not even get angry even once or use any abusive language.
Jijor added that ED officials’ questioning was based on evidences gathered. If Aravindakshan was injured severely then why did he not seek medical treatment in Ernakulam? He added that there is a suspicion about why he sought medical treatment in Thrissur instead of Ernakulam.
Meanwhile, the police have frozen further actions against ED. The police’s withdrawal from the case comes after legal advice.
