Kochi: A report said that Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested local CPI(M) leader and Wadakkanchery Municipality Councilor, PR Aravindakshan, in a money laundering case related to Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam. He was arrested from his house at Wadakkanchery.
Aravindakshan is the CPI(M) Area Committee Member and former Local Secretary of the party. He is considered a close confidant of former Minister and MLA of Kunnamkulam, AC Moideen. This is the first arrest of a CPI(M) leader related to the case.
Moideen was also questioned as part of the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam.
Karuvannur Cooperative Bank multi-crore scam has put the CPI(M) on the defensive after the party’s leaders began to come under the scanner. BJP leader, PK Krishnadas, had earlier revealed that the corruption and scams are carried out by CPI(M) in the cooperative banks across the state. He said that scam worth Rs.5000 crores have been done across 100 cooperatives in Kerala.
The CPI(M), which is trying to put a lid on the enormous scams, blamed the investigation agency and the central government for harassment and trying to kill the cooperative sector. However, the arrest of the CPI(M) by the ED has put the communist party in a difficult position.
