Alappuzha: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan criticized the state government for its wasteful expenditure on celebrations. The Governor said that when many people are suffering due to non-payment of pensions, the government is spending money on festivities.
Arif Mohammed Khan also said that the government is spending huge money for personal staff of ministers in the Cabinet.
He also clarified about the criticism that Raj Bhavan is incurring high expenditure. The Governor said that if the government believes that there is excess spending for Raj Bhavan, it is not to the media that the government must speak. He added that the government can compare the expenditure with Raj Bhavans of other states. The Governor reminded that those who earmark money for the Raj Bhavan can also stop it.
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said that he came to know about the suicide of a farmer in Alappuzha only then and added that he would stand with his family. Arif Mohammed Khan promised that he would look into the matter and see what he can do about it. He stressed that people including farmers are facing huge difficulties.
Alappuzha native, Prasad, consumed poison last night and died today morning. He had approached the bank for agriculture loan but was turned down by the financial institute. The loan was denied by the bank citing arrears of PRS loan. The state government had earlier promised that PRS arrears would not affect farmers in anyway.
The Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, GR Anil, had earlier, said that the responsibility to repay the PRS loan is with the government. PRS loan is the money given to farmers based on the Paddy Receipt Sheet (PRS).
Prasad was an office bearer of BJP’s farmer organization and District President of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh in Alappuzha.
