Kozhikode: Reservations have opened for the special train (06085) leaving from Alappuzha to Delhi, scheduled to depart today. Departing at 11 pm from Alappuzha on Friday, the train is expected to arrive at Delhi Railway Station by midnight on Sunday, passing via Palakkad. The train consists of AC three-tier coaches only, and passengers will be charged Tatkal fares.
The Indian Railways has initiated plans to increase the speed of trains across Kerala. On the Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram route, the speed will be increased to 110 kmph by next year. This plan involves the rectification of 54 small curves to facilitate smoother travel. Efforts to upgrade signals and bridge reinforcement are underway to increase the speed of trains.
As part of track modernization efforts, the process of laying new rail tracks from Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh to Trivandrum Pettah via Kochuveli is in progress. The present tracks, comprised of 52-gauge iron rails, are being replaced with new, longer 60-gauge iron rails spanning 50 meters. Shanta Constructions, a Chennai-based company, has been given the contract for track shifting.
