Alappuzha: The charge sheet in the brutal murder case of a six-year-old girl, Nakshatra, in Mavelikara is scheduled to be read on December 15. The proceedings will take place before Alappuzha Additional Sessions Judge Ash K Bal, who is presiding over the case. The accused father, Sreemahesh, will be personally produced in Alappuzha Additional District Sessions Court 1 on Monday. Prathap G Padickal is the special prosecutor.
Nakshatra’s mother, Vidya, took her own life a year and a half ago. The prosecution alleges that Sreemahesh, attempting to remarry after his wife’s death, viewed Nakshathra as an impediment to his plans and brutally murdered her. He also attempted to harm his mother, who tried to stop him.
The Mavelikkara police, who conducted the investigation, filed a 497-page charge sheet against Sreemahesh on the 78th day after the murder. The document, submitted by Mavelikkara Inspector C Sreejith, the case’s investigating officer, includes statements from 51 witnesses, 47 records, and 23 wooden items, including the axe used in the crime.
Following the charge sheet reading, trial proceedings are set to commence after the examination of witnesses. The High Court has also denied bail to the accused, Sreemahesh, who is currently in judicial custody. Nakshatra was tragically killed on June 7.
