Palakkad: Members of Kudumbashree and the National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (NREGS), known as Thozhilurappu, have faced threats to participate in the Nava Kerala Sadas. The warning came through a WhatsApp message sent by PP Vijeesh, the LDF member of the 12th ward in Thrithala Panchayat in Palakkad.
The message conveyed a warning that failure to attend the Nava Kerala Sadas would result in exclusion from further work opportunities. The message conveyed a directive that participation in the Nava Kerala Sadas was mandatory for all workers. He also emphasised that this programme is in the minister’s constituency and warned that workers who failed to attend Nava Kerala will not be able to approach him asking for work. The member also threatened them by saying he would keep a record of those who did not attend the programme.
In response to the controversy, PP Vijeesh defended the message, stating that it was not intended as a threat. He explained that he considered it his responsibility to ensure the participation of government-related workers in the government programme and sent the message with that objective.
This incident adds to a series of threats faced by Thozhilurappu and Kudumbashree members related to the Nava Kerala Sadas. Various such messages are circulating on WhatsApp.
