Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Joy Mathew has expressed his admiration for veteran writer MT Vasudevan Nair and praised him as a writer with a backbone in Malayalam literature. Joy Mathew’s comments follow MT’s critical remarks directed at the government during the Kerala Literature Festival in the presence of the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Commending MT’s bold stance, Joy Mathew expressed his views on social media.
The actor posted a note titled ‘Ezhuthukaaran Ennal…’ (A writer means…), where he highlighted MT’s transformation into a prominent leader due to his direct and striking questions to authorities. Joy Mathew said that, for the comrades, who may not even touch a book, MT’s works will be elite literature from now on.
In the Facebook post, the actor stated that MT’s rise to a top leader is not based on fleeting praises in front of authorities but on his courage to pose direct questions from a historical perspective. MT had said that power has now become hegemony or sovereignty, deviating from its intended purpose of serving the people.
The note shared by Joy Mathew on social media reads, “The writer MT becomes a top leader not because of the temporary glimmers of status he got by praising in front of the authorities, but because he asks direct questions with a sense of history to the authorities, who boast of being omnipotent but hide from the people out of fear. Truly, if there is a writer with a backbone in Malayalam, it is MT. (For those comrades who have not touched a book with their hands, now onwards, MT’s literature will be elite literature!)”
