Thiruvananthapuram: Former chairperson of the Kerala Sports Council and former Congress leader Padmini Thomas has announced her decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing frustration with the Congress party. She stated that the Congress now has five groups, and the party is going through a tough situation. She emphasised that within the Congress party, group dynamics matter significantly to men, while women receive no consideration.
Padmini Thomas also mentioned that she had experienced mental distress during her time with the Congress party. She was speaking to the media after joining the BJP .
In her statement to the media, she highlighted the trend of numerous women leaving the Congress party. She cited the example of a senior Congress woman leader who staged a protest by shaving her head in front of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). Padmini Thomas also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development initiatives have led her to join the BJP.
