Beijing: Amidst the challenges posed by the ongoing Corona pandemic, a new health crisis is surfacing in China. Reports indicate the emergence of a novel type of pneumonia, rapidly spreading throughout the country and mainly affecting children. Hospitals across China are reportedly overflowing with patients.
Symptoms exhibited by affected children include respiratory issues similar to pneumonia and a high fever. As a preventive measure, schools have started shutting down. Several educational institutions in Beijing and Liaoning, where the outbreak is most prevalent, have already closed.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has reached out to China, seeking details regarding this sudden pneumonia outbreak. The WHO has implored immediate measures to curb the spread of this ailment. ProMED, a platform monitoring infectious diseases in both humans and animals, has issued warnings concerning the spread of pneumonia among children.
The Chinese government, however, has not provided clear information about the origin or initial detection of the disease. Official reports confirm that adults have not yet been affected. Health experts emphasise that there is a chance of escalating this to an epidemic.
