Ernakulam: Noted industrialist Navas Meeran, Chairman of the Eastern Group, is poised to take on the role of President of the Kerala Football Association. As the deadline for the submission of nomination papers for the upcoming election on August 20 approaches, Navas stands as the sole candidate vying for the presidency. Interestingly, each post appears to have garnered an equal number of endorsements, indicating a balanced race.
The eagerly anticipated election has garnered substantial attention, especially since Navas Meeran’s nomination has remained unchallenged thus far. With 42 individuals from district associations holding the right to vote, the election is expected to yield a decisive outcome.
Dr. Reginald Varghese, hailing from Pathanamthitta, is set to take on the role of treasurer, adding his expertise to the administration. Furthermore, a slew of capable individuals from various districts have vied for the position of Vice President. The list includes M. Muhammad Salim (Malappuram), V.P. Pavithran, Paulus P. (Ernakulam), Davis Mookan (Thrissur), Sivakumar (Palakkad), and Haridas (Kozhikode). With a total of six vice president’s seats available, these candidates are poised to be elected unopposed, reflecting a cooperative spirit among the leadership.
Shaji (Wayanad) and Vijayakumar (Alappuzha) have also thrown their hats into the ring for the positions of joint secretaries.. Additionally, Achu Kottayam has presented his candidature as a representative from the Kerala Sports Council.
Currently holding the position of General Secretary, P. Anil Kumar continues to serve in his role. The absence of opposition to this post reaffirms his position. The new office-bearers are expected to convene for their inaugural meeting, during which decisions will be made regarding Anil Kumar’s continuation as General Secretary.
The scrutiny of nominations is scheduled to take place on Friday, following which the new office-bearers will be officially announced. The developments within the Kerala Football Association promise to shape the future of football administration in the region as leaders like Navas Meeran take the reins and pave the way for progress and innovation.
